We picked up the hire car and within minutes were dreadfully lost - zooming off on some highway to somewhere in a big hurry - thank heavens for the Tom Tom. We were able to retrieve the situation and were soon on our way to Liverpool. On our way through Manchester we were looking for a Post Office to send home some of our Russian souvenirs. We found one on the outskirts of Manchester. On entering, it looked as if I had entered a shop in a third world country. The counter was behind bars, nothing was on display except a few dirty looking coke bottles and the likelihood of anything getting back to Australia seemed nil - so on we went with not the best impression of Manchester. We saw Manchester cathedral before going through Salford, stopping for lunch at "The Greyhound Hotel" near Leigh. Along the way we were still looking for boxes to send these souvenirs home and we stopped at a Sainbury's near Liverpool. We wandered through the grocery shop to see what different things they sell and we were surprised at the huge range of Australian wines that was for sale. But in general on our travels Australian wines have been well regarded. We ended up buying some black pudding to eat on the way. Our hotel in Liverpool was good, facing Albert dock. It was drizzling rain. We met Myfin, Sain and Evette (Graham's sister and nieces) for a very enjoyable dinner over in Albert Dock.
