Karen and Tim arrived in time to join us for worship on Thursday, followed by a nice walk home before supper and then Stammtische. Both Karen and Tim were welcoming warmly to our weekly gathering as more stories were told around the table.
On Friday we had breakfast, then morning kuchen and coffee, then lunch, then ice cream and finally supper. It's a good thing we walk and bike everywhere! On Saturday we traveled by train to Leipzig to again visit the churches there and then enjoyed the afternoon Motette which featured the famous Thomaschor (St. Thomas boy's choir). The music was amazing, but sitting for that long made staying awake a challenge.
On Sunday, we visited Luther's House, which is an amazing building filled with information on the life of Luther (in German and English!). We spent three hours here and then in the evening attended the town Serenade in the courtyard of Luther's House. The whole town gathered for a kind of sing-along (babies, children, adults, seniors) accompanied by a choir, brass and wind instruments and strings. It was delightful to watch the children dancing around on the grass as they enjoyed the music.
On Monday, we biked in the rain to "Luther's Well", a favorite resting place for Luther and a very charming guesthouse and restaurant. We were welcomed warmly even though we arrived before the "official" opening time. After a refreshing drink we continued on our way home.
This morning Karen and Tim went to the train station, but the trains were on strike until 9 a.m. so they probably rode to Berlin in a very crowded train!. It was a real treat to have them visit us here.
