It was interesting coming back to Cozumel. It's nothing like how I remembered it from when I was last here. Downtown Cozumel is pumped by daily cruise stop overīs, so you have the silver, diamond, electronic shops accompanied by the one dollar beers to aid your shopping decisions. By night it's a completely different place. Almost a ghost town, the streets are quiet apart from the odd beat of music coming from some small local bar. The reason we came here was top do a dive at one of the many fantastic and world famous dive sites between here and Mexico. We managed to do that dive yesterday. Although we didn't get to do any wall dives (Cozumel has a few of these) we did dives at two separate sights which were amazing. The visibility was around 20m and we saw lots of different marine life. Lots of sting rays and even a 7ft green eel! I was very glad I kept my distance!

As we had booked 2 nights at the hostel here today we decided to rent mopeds and do a circuit around the island to explore more than just downtown A bit wet after coming across a tropical downpour

. We drove south from Cozumel down to Punta Sur. We didn't go all the way down to the very south tip of the island as you had to pay 10 dollar to - rip off! We carried on our travels, coming across 4 car loads of summer break Americans out for a laugh. I did my duty and beeped them whenever we passed them. After we cut back into land we stopped off at a Mayan ruins site. It was a lot less commercial compared to the site we went to in Mexico City, although there was not a lot to see. We did manage to get stuck in a tropical downpour which saw both me and James drenched through to our skin. A quick blast on the moped later and we were back in Cozumel half dry and ready to leave.

Despite Cozumel being described as over touristy, if you make an effort get out of town and see what it is really like then opinions may be changed. Another plus of Cozumel is the locals. We met a couple of locals last night who were really amazing. One even gave me a peanuts cartoon book in Spanish which he wanted me to have to remember not him, but Cozumel as a place of friendly faces.

We are nearing the end of our Mexico experience and soon head south to Belize which I can't wait for!

Viva Mexicana
Friendly locals seems to be the common theme on your travels. Pity our country is stuck with so many morons. take great care on mopeds and dont think about a motor bike when you come home. Your diving exploits have been fantastic and both of you are already very experienced. I am sure Belize will be great but remember to only use approved dive schools. Speak soon love dad xxxx
