Crap it is then!
The themepark (Vinland) is a bit too overpriced and after looking at it online, well it just looks a bit sh*t. Our other option for the day is to catch a taxi 4km to a place called Thap Ba Hot Springs Centre. At Thap Ba you pay the nice people to run you a nice hot steaming bath....of mud. Sounds like fun.
We pack our swimmers and head out onto the main road to catch a taxi. Bizarrely it takes us ages to get a taxi, usually you are being shouted at by drivers before you've even made it out of your hotel
After changing into our lovely clean swim suits, we are directed to the showers to get even cleaner. Then we are pointed to the 'mud tubs' up some rather steep and slippy steps. We stand next to the tub grinning at each other. Then the nice chap turns the tap on and huge amounts of runny mud pour down into the tub. The grinning stops. It doesn't look very appealing and there are unknown bits of stuff floating in it. Ian, graciously, lets Anna get in first before following her into the tub. It's actually pretty nice. It doesn't smell bad or taste bad, just a bit gritty (as Ian finds out by accident). It also makes you float, which keeps us both giggling as we bob about in the deep slippy mud. We stay in the mud until we start to resemble prunes, then we flop down onto the waiting loungers to crust-up in the sunshine.
Washing the mud off is not nearly as easy as getting the mud on
Thap Ba is a super cool place and we spend all day relaxing there, enjoying our now rejuvinated and silky smooth mud skin. If you ever get the chance to be covered in mud then we highly recomend it. Don't bring your own swimmers though, the mud never washes out.
