So we ventured out into Bangkok for the first time to have a look about and find some water! We stepped out into a hot day and soon we were tunnelling through pavement markets that are narrow and claustraphobic. The smells can be oppressive and enticing and there are no quiet places to stop, Bangkok is Busy!
We eventually found a cafe we liked the look of and ordered some food and drink. Anna had a chicken (maybe) sandwich and I had a bowl of salty water with some leaves and veg in. Both meals were very tasty and soon we were back in the street market trying to find Khaosan Road...
We didn't find it but we did find a tuk-tuk and spent the day zipping about different temples and monuments
From what we saw today it is clear that some areas of Bangkok are of outstanding beauty and the people can be welcoming and freindly, but also there are some very poor ghetto areas and some of the folk can be less than pleasant!
In the ITAT (tourist information) we booked tickets on the night train, and a bus and boat, to Kho Phi Phi where The Beach was filmed. Another 12 hour journey to look forward to in a couple of days but it'll be worth it as the south of Thailand has amazing beaches and is not as full-on as Bangkok. After a few days in Bangkok a relaxing change of pace will be much needed!
Time now to try and find Khaosan again and some Thai beer....
