Sunday November 4th, Canoa Quebrada
Alas, Barb can sleep through ALMOST anything. Our peaceful night failed to happen. Live music till the wee hours, then at 5am ghetto blasters from car boots under our window, followed by a noisy café over the road. We moved to another pousada. Canoa Quebrada is a lovely beach a half hour combi ride from Aracati, and crowded on weekends. There is a orange-ish cliff, lots of pale clean sand, and cafes perched on stilts right over the beach. They need to be on stilts, as our drinks table had its legs in 6 inches of water an hour later. The sea was warm and clean, but the waves were so choppy it made swimming impossible. Seeing the bulging figures squeezed into too-small bikinis, Barb stripped to hers, and hoped nobody was looking at the white midriff above brown legs. Rather than buy lunch at one of the expensive beach cafes we hiked into the village and bought a set lunch. Alas, Pete's chook was only fit for vultures. Even the dog rejected it. The senora gave us too much change, serve her right.
After an afternoon when we should have been plastering on sunblock, but weren't, we returned to Aracati feeling and looking well cooked. It was a lovely place for a day visit, and staying in Aracati made it very cheap. Night life not being our scene there was little point in staying for the vibe. More thumbnails ...
