We checked out of the hostel in Riohacha. The hostel arranged for us to be picked up from the hostel by a collective taxi to Uribia.(12,000pesos each).  This is a town set in the lowlands of the peninsula. We were taken to the only hotel, the Jayasiruia, in town, and unbe-known to us it was Uribia 72nd birthday. A double room with bath was 40,000pesos. It is an interesting market town and is alleged to be the indiginous capital for Colombia with many indiginous people. The hotel was built about 50 years ago and is a rabbit warren of rooms.  In the courtyard it has a very interesting collection of parrots.
We were pleased to find that there were many celebrations planned for the day and the town was full of visiting dignatories. We attended a musical concert in the morning, hosted by the town elders. A vagrant was bopping away to the music and having a great time much to the annoyance of the officials, but there was not much they could do about it.
We had a very nice complete meal for lunch and then headed to a dusty sports area in a pedicab where there was a horse race planned with bows and arrows. It was pretty exciting, with the men, boys and their horses in their tribal clothes, but lasted only minutes. Probably a lot of money changed hands with the bookies. It was a dusty affair.
The next item on the agenda was a cultural dance at 5.30pm but whilst we waited in eager anticipation, it did not happen. The contractors were busy setting up the audio, lighting and stage at that time. The concert started at 8.00pm. By that time the town square was abuzz with local people and a carnaval atmosphere prevailed with sideshows  etc, most of which was designed to rip the money off of the children as there was little chance of them winning.
It was typical south american music with salsa and cultural dancing.
