Monday 10th July
Going into the city today after a lazy breakfast. Left at 10am with the courtesy bus, and as we wanted to go to the silk market the driver dropped us at the door, which was great because as usual it is extremely hot here. The silk village was very interesting for Brian and I. We saw the worms at each stage until they make their cocoon. I didn't know before but they actually cook the cocoon with the worm still in it. Apparently if the worm makes a hole in the cocoon they can't use it because the silk won't come out in a continuous thread. They don't waste anything though because they cook the worm after and then eat it, they are supposed to be a delicacy. It was fascinating and the silk was beautiful. After the village we went to see the famous Hua Hin train station that was built almost 100 years ago and it is very pretty, we found out later that the train "The Orient Express" still runs through here.
After lunch we were feeling the heat so we went to a Thai massage parlor and both had a massage which is a first for both of us. Brian had a traditional massage and I had an oil massage. It is so cheap as it cost us 300 baht each for 1 hour which is $11 each. It was also air conditioned which was a bonus.
After we went for a walk to the beach to sit under the umbrellas they have there. They have hundreds of umbrellas and deck chairs all set up on the beach. At low tide they are spread out but as the tide rises they bring the tables and chairs back out of the water. If you sit there long enough you will eventually have to move. We had a fabulous meal sitting right on the beach with the water lapping around our feet what a buzz. One thing I keep forgetting to mention is that they don't use napkins at most places here. Nearly every time we have been out to eat they have toilet paper on the tables for napkins. Some stores put it in nice containers and others tear it into sheets, but it is definitely toilet paper. Anyway we left our resort at 10am and didn't get home until 7pm. I think tomorrow will be a day of rest.
