Show trip route
We did a lot more sightseeing on Sunday and thankfully the weather cooperated. We took the subway to Canal Street and pretty much walked around all day.. From Chinatown to Wall Street, Ground Zero to Battery Park then hopped onto the Staten Island Ferry (free!) followed by a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge! Later that night, T's friend and our host showed us around Chelsea (AWESOME neighbourhood!), Union Square and introduced us to Trader Joe's, the coolest grocery store I've ever seen - http://www.traderjoes.com/.
Monday was more relaxed.
We returned to Union Square, bought some ready-made food and ate at the park. From there, we made our way to Times Square and bought tickets for the musical called Avenue Q - http://www.avenueq.com. Who would have thought that a musical with puppets a la Sesame Street would be so amazing?!?! And the posters outside the theatre don't fail to mention that they've won a Tony =D While we were killing time before the show, we happened to catch the first hour of Lucia di Lammermoor which the season opening show was being broadcasted live on three screens at Times Square and at the Lincoln Centre. This free broadcast is one of the ways the Met Opera is trying to make this artform more accessible to the masses.
Speaking of art... while taking the subway and walking by the Times Square Hilton, T and I came across these funky bronze creatures that inhabit dusty little corners. These figures scattered in random spots were created by Tom Otterness - http://www.tomotterness.net
Have I mentioned that i LOVE new york?!?!?
Countdown continues... 22 days before my BIG TRIP!!!
