The bus journey was pretty grim. We we´re only in 'semi-cama´, which is bog standard travel and we had no choice to upgrade to our more favoured ´coche-cama´class with more comfortable seats and food etc. So it basically like siiting on a National Express for a day and 2 nights. To make matters worse the roads were all gravel for about 25 hours so we were doing about 50k per hour and were bouncing all over the shop. There was literally nothingness all around us for a about a full 30 hours of the trip which was pretty wierd as well.
Tired and hungry we arrived in El Calafate to do our glacier viewing. The hostel was sweet which was a welcome relief so we checked and treated oursleves to a nice breakfast/dinner in a local cafe. El Calafate was really nice, similar to Pucon in a lot of respects but was literally in the middle of nowhere. Here we befriended a girl named Esther who was to join us on a 4 day hike in a few days time round the ´Torres del Paine´ national park
The day after we arrived we did a trip to the Moreno glacier and it totally dwarfs the ones in New Zealand. It´s probably one of the most impressive things we´ve seen so far. It´s really big and really white and we did a boat trip right up to the front of it where you could witness pieces of ice tumbling off and crashing into the lake. Suitably impressed we decided a night out was in order and thought it would be best to do it Argie style and eat late (i.e. 11pm). Bad idea. We ended up drunk before we went out, ate too much far too late which only fuelled my ever worsening hangovers. Needless to say the next day on the bus back into Chile to Puerta Natales for our hike was a bad experience. We also received the disappointing news that Nicki and Paul were backing out of the trek due to their bad experience of multi-day trekking in New Zealand and that we would be splitting up for the next week or so until our rendevouz Buenos Aires on the 28th of March.

Best description of a glacier I've ever heard...
'Really big and really white'
