Alas we arrive and it´s not as imtimidating as we thought. Quite the oppoiste actually!
Santiago was actually better than expected. We took a day trip out to a couple fo the beachy places about an hour outside of the city which were OK but it was raining so we just looked round, got some pics and made our way back. We did take a bus trip to sample the local transport system which was interesting and pretty dirty at the same time as we were hounded by some local drunk/tramp fellow. The second day we went round the city centre and it was much nicer than expected despite there being only a days worth of things to do. It´s very Spanish as you´d expect and is overlooked by the mighty Andes. The people seem really nice and we´re trying our newly learnt Spanish out (Vikki´s a natural) booking coach journeys and ordering food etc. Despite Chile being the most expensive SA country we´ll be in it´s still vey cheap and you can get a meal for 2 for about 5 to 10 pounds with drinks and starters etc. The transport is also cheap. We also found a cool hostel with a massive TV and loads of films to choose from called Hostel de Sammy. It´s a little run down and scruffy but it´s got character and for a city centre one it was fine. The jeg lag at this point has been a problem and we´re not sleeping till 4-5am every night so we´re both knackered all the time in the day. We did go back in time though depsite an 11 hour flight so it´s to be expected.
