Before we fly to Cairns tomorrow we campervanned it round a bit of western australia first. It would have been rude not to see some of it having spent the last 3 months living here. It was a bit of a rush job, trying to fit in as many places as possible in 8 days but we did OK I reckon and got to see a decent amount.
First stop was inland about 400k's to see wave rock (pics to follow by the way). Was good to see some of the non coastal part of Oz but Jesus is it grim? I bet the suicide rate in some of them places is hiiiiigh. As you drive along these extremely long and straight roads through the country and then you blink the town has gone. Talk about Village of the Dammed, these places are it, first hand. Still it was good to get a taste of it and we were glad to get out of Perth. After about a 4 hours drive, as it was late, we just camped at the rock, cooked a shady pasta and sauce on our gas stove and went to bed ready to see it the next day. It was fairly impressive to be honest, maybe not quite worth the drive and petrol costs, but good nonetheless. It basically resembles a huge wave but made from rock (as you probably guessed) and never seen anything like that before so glad we went.
We drove on then to Albany on the south coast and spent a night there in what was to be our first beach car park experience. It wasn't all that bad. We used the beach showers, wee'd in the sea and ate another shady pasta and sauce dish that I expertly whipped up. The next few days consisted of fleeting vists the places along the south and south west coastline, namely; Denmark where we ate an award winning pie, very nice. Walpole, where we did a tree top walk, very high. Pemberton, where we ditched the pasta and sauce and had a cavery, very full. Augusta, where we saw the oceans meet and spent new year, very pissed. Margaret River, where we planned to surf but shat it at the size of the waves, very full of flies. Dunsborough, where we did pretty much sweet fa, very bored. Busselton, where we met up with Pat and Steve and family and sunbathed and went Jet Skiing, very burnt. And then back to Perth today.
It was good effort in the time we had. Bit indifferent about the campervanning at the the minute. We kind of like it where we use campsites but are sceptical about sleeping on beach car parks which we did about 3 nights out of the 8. We also get stared at in our 'Wicked Campervan' alot because it's full of graffiti. Some times this is good and a bit funny but other times I forget what it looks like on the outside and find myself losing my temper when people stare at me funny. We've got another 9 weeks or so of living out of one though so we better get used it. Anyway, we're both doing OK and we wish everyone a happy new year.
Will be in touch again in a week or so. Learning to scuba dive next week so next time we get in touch we should be qualified to dive on our own and I'm sure something stupid will happen for us to tell you about. Chow for now Danny and Vikki More thumbnails ...
