We were picked up a 2pm after the night of rain hell to go on safari by our driver who was funnily named 'Beerman' and had a mate who he chatted to frequently on his CB radio called 'Fungi Fungi'. I'm pretty sure our driver was stoned the entire time as well but he provided a good source of entertainment and he knew sh!t loads about the animals we were about to see in the wild so all was good and the sun was starting to shine. For the safari we were split into groups of 6 or 8 and we drove to the edge of the national parks were we camped ready for the next 2 days animal spotting David Attenborough stylee. (the camp site was good as well and had warm showers and a good bar which was much needed).

The next day we left at 6am and first stop was Ngorongoro. The road in was horrendous and every aspect of our 4 wheel drive transport was needed as we bumped and bounced are way over the edge of the crater and back down the otherside a
a
. The views into the crater were amazing and got even better as the day went on and the cloud lifted. We got the roofs open on the car and stood out of them for pretty much the rest of the day which was top fun in itself. Animals spotted were Zebra, Wildebeast, Hippo's, a Rhino, Lions chowing down on a recent catch, Hyena and buffalo. We then had lunch in the crater before we moved on to the Srengeti itself. (We had monkeys jumping into the cars and nicking peoples lunch which was quite amusing.).
The Serengeti was much better than the crater which had felt a little like a safari park due it being enclosed on all sides, it was a vast and open space as far as you could see and during our afternoon and following morning we witness both a lioness and a Cheetah stalking and chasing herds of Antelope (but failing miserably) as well as Giraffe's and Leopards. All the hunting animals are so hard to spot and we had to rely on the driver and his communications with other cars to get the locations of various animals and at times we needed to use binnoculars to get a good sight of them. We did get really close as well though which was brilliant and seemed totally surreal. We also camped out in the wild for a night and had Lions and Hyena walking right through the campsite at night.

All in all the safari was superb and we both loved it and are looking forward to doing it again later in the trip.
