Entry 30 of 51 | show all | print this entry

So the return ferry ride wasn't that bad, but I had to watch "the Scorpion King" 3 times and "Agent Cody banks" twice. Arghhhhhhh. And there is nothing more worse than having to watch them and then they keep skipping/getting stuck. I did sleep though.

So I'm pitched in Suva again in the same hostel as before (it was cheap). I have my flight booked and will be leaving for New Zealand tomorrow. Been chatting to people in the hostel about all their travels. A quartet from Bristol, 2 Israeli guys, an Aussie and 2 Japanese. There is this guy staying there called Edwin from Fiji (sounds Australian) staying in the bunk below me, that smokes a lot of bongs. But he's cool. We were all chatting about giving up the material world for a simple life of farming and looking after your own, films that have been filmed in Fiji (including Cast Away). Its kinda cool, just being able to listen to other people tell all there stories about there countries. I guess that's why I'm here, 'cause I wanted stories of my own. Just waiting for the stories to show up ha ha .

Went to the Fiji Museum today which was ok for F$7 (about 2 quid). It was ok. I thought there was gonna be loads about the cannibalism, but not as much as I thought. I must be at the 'PG rating' museum. I wanted to see gore and missing limbs dammit. There was stuff about first people living in Fiji Islands, about the famous 'Drua', which was a famous canoe type boat, which looks like the worlds first catamaran. Ha ha. Loads of stuff being colonised by UK and loads of other stuff. The best stuff was some canvas paintings some guy had done. They were all tribal and stuff, with hyrogliphics and primitive drawings, that I thought were cool. There was also a section dedicated to Indo-Fijians who have been living in Fiji for 200 odd years, but I thought that was paff.

Apart from that, I haven't done too much. Listened to a lot of beggars stories and been chatted up by a 'lady of the night'.....at 6 in the morning. And after I played her a song (the Fijians insist on hearing me sing and play - have they not heard the cd?), she was like 'do you want a little fun?' and blew me a kiss. I left her alone. Honest mum!! Then last night, the same again, but this woman had bandages all over her chin and stitches. SHe didn't look healthy. This was just after I had seen Resident Evil for the second time. I actually thought she was one of the extra zombies. Serious!!! Been researching stuff on the net for some ideas that I would like to try once I get back to UK, or the states (I know you want me back OB). It weird. In this cafe, there are loads of people playing Counter Strike on the net with link up. They've all got mics and everything. And I thought that I was a geek. I'm nothing in comparison. They're all shouting in Japanese at the screen (probably not 'where are my car keys')

Still on the hunt for a digital camera. Might see if I can hone my haggling skills in Nadi, before I fly out. Everything is too expensive here in Suva, but I might be able to pick up a bargain elsewhere. And I'm not having a lot of luck uploading pictures at the mo. Didn't seem to be a problem in the states, but here, I'm having no joy.

I guess this is gonna be the last entry from Fiji also. I can't stress enough how much people should go here. This place rules. The Islands are amazing, the sea so clear etc etc. Its kind of a picture paradise. And I'm guessing its cheaper than the Carribean. I will be coming back. One day. I have to see the Yasawa Islands.

Anyway, I hope all is cool. Its overcast today. Reminds me of UK (shudders at thought)

Adios people
