On a lighter note....
We made it! The main reason for the trip. The Missouri River Headwaters. The beginning of the longest river in the country and the 4th longest in the world. Truly spectacular.
We arrived at Missouri Headwaters State Park in Three Forks, Montana. This park has only 23 campsites and there were only about 6 sites taken. There's something to be said about camping at the end of the season. Driving into the campsite area we were greeted with a sign that said "Caution Moose In Area." We were told by the campsite host that there are 2 and they just go wherever they want to go. Never did see one.
The campsite host has an English Bulldog named Hippo. He was definitely appropriately named. I don't think he's ever missed a meal. We should have gotten a picture of him, but unfortunately, we didn't.
There were several walking trails and if you went by the official map of the area, it would not end well. It seemed that the trails didn't match the map at all. We didn't care. We were just happy to be here. We walked down to the headwaters and headed back at sunset.
The day was warmer than we thought it would be.... mid 80's, but it cooled down nicely in the evening. I think it got down to 47 degrees or something close. We kept warm and toasty thanks to Bailey.
