What a surprise, the Heli-Hike was cancelled. Cloud level was too low apparently. I could've cried I was that disappointed.
We drove first to Lake Matheson and then to the glacier lookout, where we could see sweet b. all and then drove a little further up the coast to see what the deal was the Franz Joseph glacier. They too were cancelled at last minute. Bummer. There wasn't much else for it but to hit the road again heading for wherever we could make befor nightfall. We called in at a couple of towns on the way but eventually ended up hauling in for the night at Punakaiki where there are these impressive rock formations ('Mmmm, rock formations' I hear you murmur, 'very exciting') which look just as the name suggests, like stacks of pancakes. Well I liked them at any rate.
We had a nice little sheltered spot in the campsite this evening which was just as well as the night before in Fox we had been ravaged by thunder storms all night which was fun when you are in the middle of a field in a giant metal box :-) More thumbnails ...
