We arrived in Rome without problems. From the airport, we took a bus to the Pantheon. Our B&B was located near the Pantheon. From the bus station, we walked to our B&B. We just dropped off our luggages and headed out. We were too excited to explore Rome. We took a stroll in Via de Condotti towards the Spanish Steps. Stores like Louis Vuitton, Prada, Ferragamo were so inviting. I kept telling myself that we're there for sightseeing and not to shop. We went to see the Colosseo, Foro Romano, and Victor Emmanuel II Monument. We attended mass in St. Peter's Basilica officiated by Pope Benedict XVI. And the best close encounter we had with Pope Benedict was when he was in his motorcade just before the mass started. TIP: Stay closer to where the big gap is (a size of a one lane). That's where the Pope mobile will pass by and you will have a good view of the Pope.
We explored the Vatican Museum and the crypt, where we saw the tomb of Pope John Paul II and St. Peter. We also climb 620 steps to the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Nobody wants to take the elevator to the middle because the line was really long. The climb was really exhausting. DH was so angry that we have to climbed it because he was carrying DD2 too. But as soon as we arrived to the top everybody was mesmerized by the view. The view was worth every step of it. TIP: unless you are fit, take the elevator.
