Melbourne.. it s like all australian cities.. it s not all about the town but about the surrounding as well..

Melbourne as a Mediterranean climate.. a bit like south of France.. can be really hot but like Marseilles I know, sometimes, you could feel the cold and the snow in winter..

what i like in melbourne is the people are more open to the world and seem to be better educated than the country.. many people I met during my travelling were from around Melbourne, a few from Sydney and not many from Perth and just one couple from Brisbane per exemple.. they are maybe more european minded than people from other towns.. Sydney for me they look more like Californians or americans..

Melbourne is really good for good music and clubs. A lot of theater, festival.. a lot of culture.. you can feel a huge italian influence and you see many greek restaurant too.. it s a melting pot..

on the other end.. the city center with those Victorian building and the CDB with all the skyscrapers.. are for me not really appealing.. the baech, st kilda.. not the best.. the bay and the beaches in sydney are much better..

from Melbourne you can go down to Torquay.. great ocean road... but be carefull if you have a car.. you have many toll road in and around Melbourne.. and not very cheap.. If I remember well about 10dollars a day..

I really like this coast along the great ocean road.. the surf is great, powerfull, consistent.. but cold..

on the other side of Melbourne you can go to Philipp Island which is really nice, continue to the Wilson promitory and many great wild places to camp, to surf or just hav a look...

I haven t been there.. but a friend did.. apparently the alps and the outback victory are really worth a look..

enjoy
