however cairns is a good point to go further north to Cape York, Cooktown, the tableland and the most famous one the great barrier reef.. you can do the islands.. friday islands and the other one i forgot the name.. but I haven t been there..
The reef.. I head many many stories from people whom pay a lot of money are in a big boat with 100 persons.. snorkle or dive on a spot where the fishes are afraid of the hord of tourists and the coral dead.. so be carrefull which company you take and to which spot are you going to..
we had a good tip from a family member of Francois.. you should do a two or three days or more trip on a boat.. so you can go further out on the reef.. further out.. better is the dive.. and the snorkling.. we did a two days trip which was a bit spartan but great.. you can do as many dive as you want, night dives.. really great.. but i don t remember the company..
another tip, is to take a trip on the coral see north of cairns torward cape york.. it s a week cruise if i remember and it s very pricey, but like moste of the things.. you pay for what you get.. and it s amazing.. what the people told me..
If you are in Cairns.. you have to go to Cape Tribulation.. a must.. only bad thing are the bloody jelly fish.. even if it s not the season.. you are afraid to go into the water.. full of crocodile and other nasty animals.. i mean you just walk a bit north of the cape trib... and you hit a rivermouth.. and you see many sign with be carfull don t go to close to the shore.. full of slatwater crocodile.. and the rivermouth is clode.. cape trip too.. and crocodile don t mind to swim kilometers far away from the river..
you have to visit the daintree forest.. great walk.. you have a national park, a canopy tower.. very interesting.. a walk in the Mosman gorge is great too.. a stop at the ice cream house.. worth a stop too..
if you have a 4wd cross the river, and go torward Cooktown.. havn t done it.. but sounds great.. i have some regret could go because of the car there..
and i forgot about the scenery.. the road from Cairns to cape tribulation is almost as nice as the great ocean road.. in cairns go to the market.. you get fresh fruits.. like in brazil or ecuador.. such sweet bananas, ananas etc.. and mostly cheaper than woolworth.. which is not always worth..
only bad thing.. in cairns the police come and take your beer if you drink one one the esplanade during a barbecue.. but you can make a mix, like caipiroska.. in a bottle of water.. and no worries..
