19th October 2007 - Day 130
Another early start as we had to fit in the falls that we had missed on the first day. As we bombed down the river, we were supposed to get off and walk around the rapids again, however, the driver decided to take the boat through the rapids with us in which was a lot of fun. We made it through and headed to Sapo falls where we could walk behind them. As we were making our way along the falls, our guide suddenly stopped us as he had spotted something in the bush. It turned out to be a deadly snake! He made us go back along the path and then proceeded to throw stones at the snake to try and remove it from the path. We all thought that this was a pretty crazy idea bearing in mind it was a 2 and a half metre long snake and antagonising it was probably not the best idea.
We decided to head to some other falls to wander behind them although this turned out to be interesting and slightly dangerous. To get to the path behind the falls, we had to cross some rocks which were slippy as hell and being pummelled with water from the falls. Garvo slipped down the rock and gashed all his leg which was not ideal but we all finally made it across safely. It was pretty cool once we got behind the falls and the force was pretty incredible although none of us were looking forward to heading back across the 'death' rocks. We made it back safely to Canaima where we grabbed some lunch and then received the good news that we could get a direct flight back to Ciudad Bolivar. Arriving back at 2pm, we then had the whole afternoon to chill out as we had a night bus back to Caracas that night. We chilled out in the square before meeting up with the Russians and the Dutchies for a drink or two before heading out to catch the bus.
