Day 88 - September 8th 2007
So after the early airport debacle we make it our of the airport and are tasked with finding our way into the city. We end up on a mini bus of sorts with about 15 people crammed in the back of a van the size of a Rascal van. We think we have missed our stop so get out only to find we are still about 3 miles from the city - doh. We then find a taxi who takes us to the centre and all is looking better for us. We manage to bump into a random fella in the square who shows us to a hostel which is ok. It has no proper roof but the room is clean and we just want to get out and explore.
We just head out wandering the streets of Lima and soaking up the atmosphere in a dazed and tired state. We find a place to eat next to our hostel which turns out to be pretty poor although the beer helped things along. The meals title of 'economico' certainly lived up to its title. We end up crashing pretty early as we are knackered although that proves to be difficult as it is freezing. Day 89 - September 9th 2007 We are up and out nice and early trying to track down Carly's bag but with little luck to begin with. Garvo tries his first empanada and is most impressed and we wander around trying to call on pretty much every phone in the city before we finally get through. We then have to head back out to the airport to collect the bag which is a journey in itself as we take a public bus and then a rascal van to get there but at least the bag has arrived.
We then head back to the city to catch a bus to Cuzco from where we will start the Inca Trail. It is a 21 hour bus journey which is not much fun although the game of bingo on the way certainly livens things up a little. We get served with food, if you can call it that, on the bus by a lovely if slightly eccentric hostess.
