Day 62 -12th August 2007
Over a delicious breakfast of croissants and the best homemade blackberry jam in the world followed by eggs and all the usual suspects we we fully introduced to Val and Paul and their dogs Tina, Colty and Sassy the cat. A morning trip to the supermarket to pick up supplies for out big adventure then an afternoon walk with the dogs through the local woods. This place is so beautiful and people that live on the island are right not to go boasting about how good they have it. That evening we enjoyed a bbq of salmon fresh from the island and a few beers. If you can believe, Paul offered Garvo a Carling Black Label which happens to be an 8 percent beer over here (either Dad would appreciate the Canadians for that!)
Day 63 -13th August 2007 Garvo's birthday - 27 today and what a place to celebrate it. The morning we had to prepare our supplies for our big adventure which mainly involved borrowing camping gear off the neighbours and vacuum packing bags of trail mix, cake and anything else that didn't require cooking as we didn't need the added weight of a stove in our bags plus we have both watched our fair share of survival programs and are happy that we make a better camp fire than Ray Mears. In the afternoon we took a sailing trip over to Ladysmith with our captain Paul navigating us across in his 75 year old boat while we enjoyed the sunshine. We dropped by the neighbours for a drink and decided on dinner out at the local English pub called the Crow and Gate where we were introduced to local oysters which Carly really enjoyed sampling (but they we not the type that look like bogies). Garvo opted for a taste of home with a shepherd's pie and enjoyed his birthday cheesecake and we rounded off a fantastic evening by star gazing out on the veranda.
