On Friday, March 10 my mom, dad, Mike and I were in Jersey at my Uncle Marc and Aunt Tanya's house. We hung out at the house and went out to eat at a not-so-good Mexican restaurant. On the way home we stopped at a 711 to get Slurpee's and some snacks. While we were walking around 711 my Aunt Debbie called and told me that she was going to Rocky Point the next day with my Grandma and cousin Carianne. I had nothing to do that weekend so I decided to go. I love going to Rocky Point in the winter, when we don't have to sweat without an air conditioner! When we got home I packed up my stuff in our NBC duffel bag and spent the night watching TV and hanging out. The next morning I got up bright and early, at 9:00. Aunt Debbie had said that they wanted to leave at 10:30 so I wanted to be ready on time. I knew that we'd be leaving late since Cari is never on time for anything, but I got ready anyway and hung out around the house. At 10:45 Cari called me and said that they were ready to leave. Dad helped me carry my bag across the street and mom came to say bye. Then we were on our way.
It takes about an hour and a half to get to Rocky Point, and that's about how long it took this time. There was no traffic so it was great. We spent the time talking about funny things my little cousin Alison had said and done recently, and listening to the radio. This was right after Mike and I had met Fall Out Boy and I brought the picture to show Cari, and she thought it was hysterical that Patrick Stump (the lead singer) and I are the same height. Considering the fact that I'm 5'0", it is pretty funny! When we got into Rocky Point we decided to go for an early lunch. None of us had eaten breakfast so we were hungry. It's a tradition to go to Friendly's when we first get into Rocky Point, but none of us were in the mood for it so we decided to choose between the Rocky Point Diner and some Japanese restaurant. We all picked the Rocky Point Diner so we drove over there. We parked and went inside, and Cari and I ran into the bathroom while Aunt Debbie and Grandma waited to be seated.
Cari and I then met Grandma and Aunt Debbie at a table right in the middle of the restaurant. Although we go to Rocky Point all the time, I had never been to the Rocky Point Diner. It was very bright and open, and pretty nice. All over the diner were signs for the St. Patrick's Day parade which would be taking place the next day. St. Patrick's Day wasn't even for another few days but apparently the entire town, including the main road, closes down for the parade, so we made a note to be out of the area before 12:00 the next day, when the parade was scheduled to begin. We looked at the menu for a while before all deciding to get waffles and ice cream. Everyone got vanilla ice cream while I got chocolate. It took a while for the food to come out and the waitress forgot to bring the whipped cream that Aunt Debbie had asked for, but the food was pretty good when the right order finally arrived.
When we were done eating we decided to go shopping. I wanted to go to the house first to drop off my stuff and freshen up, but we were right by a big shopping center so we thought we would just go shopping. We drove over to Michael's first, a big crafts store. We walked around for a while and wound up finding a lot of nice stuff. I got small red and silver rhinestones and glue to decorate my cell phone with, a few black picture frames, and a couple of black and white pictures of the city for my room. I also got a poster of "The Kiss," the famous picture from when the men came home from WWII and a soldier kisses a nurse in Times Square, and a nice frame for it.
When we were done in Michael's we drove over to the Shoe Warehouse. Cari got two pairs of slipper-like crochet shoes, but I didn't see anything I liked so I didn't get anything. After fifteen minutes we walked over to Kohl's. I didn't have much money left after buying all the stuff I did in Michael's, so I just spent my time walking around and helping Cari pick up a few things. We spent about an hour and a half in Kohl's, with most of our time being spent taking pictures in all of the ugly hats and sunglasses! I wound up getting a pair of flip-flops and a nice pair of sunglasses, both of which Grandma bought for me. Thanks Grandma!
After Kohl's Cari and I walked over to FYE while Aunt Debbie and Grandma brought our bags back to the car. I had forgotten to bring any movies to watch that night so I bought the "Rent" DVD. I LOVE the movie and had been planning on buying the DVD anyway. We then drove over to a small convenience store and got some snacks and drinks for the night. I got a cranberry energy drink without even thinking about how much caffeine was in it. I never, ever have caffeine since it makes my heart go crazy and beat out of my chest but I got it anyway, and we got a few bags of chips and Combos. When we went to pay, the guy behind the counter put ALL of our stuff in one bag. When we asked him for another one since the bag was about the break, he told us not to worry and that the bag wouldn't break. Buddy, are you paying for the bags? Give us another one!
At 4:00 we finally headed over to the house. It had been a long day of shopping and we wanted to relax for a while. We brought our bags in and hung out. We talked about where we wanted to go for dinner but none of us really cared. Cari's birthday was in three days so it was up to her where we went, but she could care less so we just came up with a few different places. We wanted to go to a Tex Mex restaurant which we had tried last September and was really good. After an hour and a half of really just sitting around and watching TV, we headed out at 5:30.
Before we went to eat we wanted to drive over to the beach. I LOVE watching the sun set over the beach, and we were only going to be in Rocky Point for the night so this was our only chance. We wouldn't even have time to see the beach the next day since we had to leave early in order to miss the traffic from the St. Patrick's Day parade. So we drove over to the beach and spent an hour watching the sunset and just hanging out. The moon was really pretty and the sky was a gorgeous mix of pinks and blues. It was just a perfect night in Rocky Point.
We left the beach at 6:00 and drove to go eat. On the way we passed the biggest rock in New York... there was a plaque and everything. Wow! Haha! Anyway, we drove over to the Tex Mex restaurant, which was about fifteen minutes away, and it was PACKED. Aunt Debbie and Grandma went to get a spot while Cari and I ran in to put our name in at the podium, but the whole place was just mobbed. There were tons of people waiting to be seated and we were about seventh in line to just put our name in. We went back out and told Aunt Debbie and Grandma to forget it. We then drove around looking for an uncrowded restaurant but they were all packed. Well, we now knew where everyone on the North Shore of Long Island was on a Saturday night! We eventually decided to go to an Italian restaurant which Aunt Debbie had tried a few months ago and liked. It was crowded, and there was a forty minute wait listed, but we knew that everything would be crowded so we just waited. We were seated within an hour and ordered our food. We got bread and olive oil as an appetizer and it was really good. I then got penne with vodka but it wasn't that good. Not bad, but not good. Cari got gelato for dessert while Aunt Debbie, Grandma, and I shared regular ice cream.
When we were done eating we headed back to the house. While Cari took a shower I put the rhinestones I had bought on my cell phone while I watched Fuse. When Cari got out she was screaming about the fact that our little cousin's mini-bathtub had been left in the actual bathtub and she didn't know what to do with it. So then she and Grandma sat in it and it was hysterical! Then Aunt Debbie went to bed pretty early while Cari, Grandma and I watched "Rent." It's such an amazing movie, I never get sick of it! When it was over Grandma went to bed, and Cari and I watched Saturday Night Live and Mad TV while we snacked on some chips and I drank my energy drink. When SNL was over we were both pretty tired so we headed up to bed. I was up all night, and kept having weird dreams. No more energy drinks for me!
I finally fell asleep and was up the next morning at around 9:00. We all got up and got dressed pretty quickly since we knew that if we weren't out before the parade we'd be stuck. So we were out of the house by 11:45, and Cari and I listened to our MP3 players and snacked on Combo's on the way home. While this was a short trip, it was definitely a lot of fun. Cari and I had a great time hanging out and taking pictures, and we were both able to buy a lot of nice things. It was a fun weekend!
