Pre-Trip Part IV: Making Some Changes
Entry 4 of 42 | show all | print this entry |
Just when I think I'm done with the major planning, I always find something to change. What can I say, I love planning vacations!
So, first of all, I changed around some of our priority seating's. On our first morning in Orlando we were going to eat at the Kona Cafe. I made this priority seating because I really wanted dad to try the Tonga Toast since he loves bananas and french toast so that would be a perfect combination. However, I went out for breakfast with mom and dad to the Floridian last Friday and I told him about it, and he told me they had it there. I hate bananas so I probably always just skipped over it on the menu. There's nothing special at the Kona Cafe to try anymore, and we'll be at the Polynesian Resort later that week for dinner at OHana, so I changed the priority seating to the Whispering Canyon Cafe. I thought it would be fun to see the "entertainment" and the skillet looks good.
I also cancelled our priority seating at Cinderella's Royal Table on our last night at the Magic Kingdom and got back our confirmation number for the priority seating I originally made at Crystal Palace. There's really not much to eat at Cindy's, and the character interaction at the Crystal Palace will be fun. I've heard the most good reviews about the Crystal Palace out of all the Disney restaurants so I'm excited about trying it.
Then I changed the Cinderella's Royal Table priority seating to the night we'll be having lunch at Le Cellier. I want to see what it's like to be in the castle so I figured we'd go for dessert. I wanted a priority seating for around 9:00 to see the fireworks at 10:00, but the latest priority seating they had was for 7:45. I made it for then but I think we'll most likely skip this one. I don't think we'll be hungry by then after eating such a big lunch.
Last, but not least, I again changed one of our breakfast priority seating's. The day before we start going to the Disney parks I had originally made a priority seating for 1900 Park Fare. Then I saw that a lot of times two of the four characters there are Pooh characters, and with a priority seating with the Pooh characters at Crystal Palace it wouldn't be worth it. So I changed the priority seating to the Maya Grill a few weeks back since it looks like a nice restaurant. However, since we started planning this trip the Cape May Cafe always stuck in my head when I was planning meals. I don't know why, but I think the "Great Hotels" special on the Beach Club did it for me. I made a priority seating there since the restaurant looks really nice and the food looks great. So the priority seating's are finally done... or at least I hope they are.
Tonight mom and I talked about the trip some more. We bring up little things here and there all the time, but we've never actually really sat and talked about it. So I was in my room and she came in and asked if I had made a list of who we have to buy souvenirs for. I told her that I was only planning on getting souvenirs for four people - my cousins Cari, Alison and Zach, and my friend Adrienne. She said I should make a list of everyone that my parents would buy souvenirs for, also, just for her to have. So I did, and I brought it down with me when I went to watch the Tony's with mom and dad. I gave her the list along with the Ultimate Packing List that I had printed out from Mousesavers a few days ago. Then we started talking about what we had to buy, how we would pack, and what we had to buy once we got down there. She took out her lists and had me look over them to make sure there was nothing she was forgetting. Wow, the Ultimate Packing List has NOTHING on her! Thankfully we got the luggage bag for the top of the car befacuse we're bringing a lot of stuff down there!
Then we started talking about eating and how she'll want to get quick things to have for breakfast, lunch and dinner to keep in the condo, again saying that "we can't eat out everyday!" So I told her how on our Universal Studios days we'll go back to the condo in the afternoon for dinner and then go back to the parks at night, and we'll only eat out on our Disney days, with a few extra meals thrown in here or there. She agreed, but I still haven't shown her the menus and pictures I printed out from allearsnet.com to show her the restaurants I picked. Dad wanted me to show him a while ago but now he doesn't care. He was nervous about it back then, but now that he knows I made priority seating's whenever I ask if he wants to see the restaurants he says it doesn't matter, he trusts me and he'll see them when we go. That's fine with me! My mom still wants to see the menu's, though, but she won't make me change anything.
When I originally started asking my parents to take us back to Orlando mom was very, very set on always saying no. Then when we finally booked the condo last summer she was still a pain about it. Now I know she's definitely excited. The other night I overheard mom on the phone with Uncle Marc bragging to him about how we'll be on vacation for so long, and she was even trying to talk my Uncle David into coming down to Orlando to meet us.
So that's where the planning is now. On June 17th I'm going with mom and dad to AAA to get a Triptik and plan out where to stay overnight on the way down to Orlando and back. We want to make reservations to make sure there's a room waiting for us. We don't even care if it's pet-friendly since we'll only be there for a few hours so we'll be able to sneak Oreo in... shhh!
I'm currently working on my Florida Binder. We'll have enough luggage that I don't want to have to bring heavy guidebooks so I have my separate Passporter Passpockets that I'll bring to hold tickets, receipts, info, etc from each day. In the binder I have our itinerary, print-outs from USAstar.com on rest stops along I95, menus and pictures from each restaurant we'll be eating at, our park touring plans, and more. In the coming weeks I'm going to add information about each resort we'll be visiting so we don't miss out on anything fun to see and do there, and information on each country in Epcot's world Showcae. I know it's a little extreme but I love to plan and it really does make the time go by faster.
