Show trip route
Getting back to modern history (13th March), I went to see my 2nd Broadway musical "The Drowsy Chaperone". I applied for lottery tickets, and I was lucky enough to get us front row tickets for only $25 each. It's a funny musical about a mousy and vaguely depressive Broadway fanatic who's coping mechanism involves repeatedly listening to a vinyl recording of the 1928 show The Drowsy Chaperone. As he listens to the record the stage show comes to life in his dingy studio apartment
On Friday 16th March, a group of us went to bar called Crash Mansion which plays live music. The bands were really good but there was hardly anyone there as the weather was awful (about -10 degrees outside and snowing all day). The lack of people sucked a bit of the atmosphere from the place but we still had a great time.
One event that was certainly not lacking in atmosphere was St Patrick's Day the next day. New York has the largest St Patrick's Day parade in the world. The whole city was decked out in green and you could hear bagpipes everywhere you walked for the entire day. We had a couple of drinks at home in celebration, then a huge snow fight on the top of our apartment building, followed by some more drinks, and then some more. We eventually hit the pubs. We went to a local pub called Sutton Place which we had to pay a $20 cover (usually it's free). They had 3 floors packed with people, but it was so dirty and full of idiots by that time (still only 7pm though) it was hard to settle in for the night. After a few hours we moved on to FUBAR and had a great time there.
On Saturday night (24th March) was our much anticipated "Hummer" night. Work paid for a 4 hour chauffeur driven Stretch Hummer for us; very nice of them! We drove around Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens in this pimped out hummer drinking and having a good time. We stopped off at a few iconic places like Battery Park (where there is a nice view of the Statue of Liberty), Brooklyn Bridge (you may remember the scene from Coyote Ugly when they are on his car), White Castle burger joint, a Harlem bar called Perks, and then Lotus nightclub at Meatpackers. A very fun night!
