Happy Chinese New Year! I went to Chinatown on Sunday (17th) and had a great time celebrating the Chinese New Year. The Chinese sure know how to put on a festival. Chinatown makes up a fairly large portion of Manhattan and many of the streets are narrow with tall 10 storey buildings on each side. With the buildings covered in signs with Chinese writing it really makes you feel like you are in China. We knew that there were meant to be celebrations somewhere in Chinatown, although we didn't know exactly where. Everywhere we walked we found remnants of confetti and fireworks from what we assumed were the initial midnight celebrations. We eventually heard a drum beating in the distance and we started to follow the sound. We turned a corner and we were suddenly in the middle of a Chinese Dragon parade. There were two very well decorated dragon faces in who were going up to each of the Chinese restaurants along the narrow street. We followed this parade and ended up at an intersection where there were another two dragon parades. It was pretty insane, with confetti flying around, and huge drums on every street. We went to one of the Chinese restaurants and had fried frogs for dinner. I probably wouldn't order it again, too many bones.

That weekend I also went to the Metropolitan Museum which is a huge art museum in New York. It didn't just have the modern art, it also had ancient art from the Egyptians and early Christian art which was cool. Unfortunately I was unable to see everything but I plan to go back. I had a picture taken with the Van Gogh painting and I've included. The clouds in that painting are so cool... I just realised I'm sounding like a huge art nerd.

That night me and a couple of the other guys went to 8 Mile Creek Pub to watch the Aussies play NZ at cricket. I just wish I hadn't bothered as I'm still hearing about the NZ win from the kiwi guys. I'm sure they'll stop talking when we win the Cricket World Cup. We then went to a much hyped Mardi Gras party at McFadden's pub. By the way it wasn't like the Sydney Mardi Gras, more like the New Orleans Mardi Gras. Unfortunately it was far too busy and took ages to get a drink. I guess I can't complain though as I got free entry and free drinks.

After putting on at least 5kg in Connecticut and losing about $150 at the casino (over 3 visits isn't too bad), I am now back in New York permanently. I think I have finally made my goal weight of 80kg, it's a pity I achieved it by putting on just fat, but at least I did it in style.

Last Friday (23rd February) a group of us went to the My Chemical Romance concert at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, about 1 hour away. We had a great time and the tickets were only USD 35. In Australia the ticket prices would have been about double that.

On Sunday I went to Chelsea Piers which is an area in Manhattan where some old piers have been converted into a huge sporting complex. RSM McGladrey (the guys I work for) agreed to pay for an hour at the golfing range (which takes up the length of an entire pier), an hour at the baseball batting nets, and an hour of ten-pin bowling. I sure felt it the next day as I haven't done any real exercise in over 2 months.
