Happy Australia Day! Well for last Friday anyway. In my search for a little bit of Aussie at lunch time I stumbled across an Aussie meat pie shop. It became a bit of a topic of conversation back at work as very few had seen a meat pie like it. It was an awesome pie! That night I dragged everyone to an Aussie pub called 8 Mile Creek. This little crappy pub was so full of expats we had to wait outside for 5 minutes when it was -10C. It was great to have an Aussie beer again as the American beers are very watered down and have virtually no taste. It was also interesting speaking to other Australians who were traveling or living in New York temporarily or permanently.

Last week a person from work invited me and the other secondees to Blackfinn bar. They had a happy hour deal which was $20 for 2 hours of unlimited drinks. As you can guess coming straight from work to the bar, and then trying to fit in as many drinks as possible in 2 hours led to a HUGE night of bar hopping. I needn't say more... well actually I can't remember much more about that night.

On the Saturday we went out to celebrate Dan's birthday (an English guy here). We went to a great Italian restaurant in Little Italy (which is basically part of SOHO). There were about 20 secondees there, so we managed to half fill this little Italian restaurant. After a long dinner we went to an English pub called the Red Lion. They had live bands playing there who were awesome, and so we partied the night away there. We ended up getting a limo back home for $5/person which was a bargain. We then got a pizza (by this stage it was 5am), and we saw the famous actor who is the bad guy on Blue Streak (I apologise for forgetting his name). He was a nice guy, although pretty incoherent as he was so drugged up.

Unfortunately I haven't had much of an opportunity to do any touristy things over the past week, but I have definitely immersed myself in the great New York nightlife. I did go for a run through Central Park on Sunday which was great. I was running for over an hour, not just because it is such a beautiful park, but partly because I kept getting lost.

I'm off to Connecticut for 4 weeks now for work which should be great.

Till next time...
