I'm not sure if I was actually in Munich or not.. but I do remember sitting in these gigantic beer tents with 6000+ Germans dressed in traditional attire (lederhosen and gowns)... all standing on long tables and benches.. drinking liter beers.. smiling, swaying, and singing beer songs all day long. Wow, the Germans really know how to celebrate! I couldn't imagine a place like this actually existed.

After arriving bright and early to Munich; GP, Sutin and I kicked off the festivities around 10:30 in the legendary Hoffbrauhaus tent. I think we got through 4 stines each (ok.. maybe I had 3, but that's still 9 bottles!) before getting separated in the madness and eventually meeting back at the hostel for an emergency mid afternoon nap. When I woke Sutin up at 9PM he was sure it was 9AM... and we ventured out for Indian food only to encounter this hilarious waiter who did a terrific impression of Sutin stumbling into the restaurant solo about 5 hours previous... beer in hand. "Oh, drinking man, you're back!" Brilliant...

The following day we managed to hold off the drinking until noonish.. and planned to pace ourselves better. We were told to visit this specific tent.. it was suppose to be very German and very rowdy.. and we surely weren't disappointed. It was hard to find a seat, but eventually we got squished in at a table of older German adults. They stared us down at first and made us feel unwelcome... until we explained that we were Canadians and they say "Ohhhh Canada... OK!! PROOST! (cheers) Four stines later (actually 4 this time!) we're arm in arm with the Germans, standing on our benches, singing the various beer anthems. I think we made it until 6:00 this time before again getting separated and meeting back at the hostel for another beer each.

And that was Oktoberfest.. Sutin and I walked around Munich the following day, but we were in no condition to appreciate the city. In the afternoon we got on our train headed for Prague (5 hours) and Sutin declared this day one of the worst in his life...
