Monday, October 1st- I think it's around noon time.
After spending a few complete days with Ryan in Ao Nang, I felt it was time to move on. He was definetly on the mend, but still unable to safely move around, not to mention carry a heavy pack, on his bad heel. Plus I was getting restless staying in one place. We both agreed that meeting up again "in a few days" and to continue ravelling together once he was mobile was a decent plan. But here it is almost a week later and it hasn't happened yet.
Leaving a good friend is always difficult, but in the end, I caught a ferry to Ko Phi Phi on Wednesday morning. Upon arriving at Tonsai the main port town of Ko Phi Phi, I made friends with the only other single traveller I could see, Olle from Sweden. Reason being that we were the only ones from the ferry standing on the beach, wanting to take a longtail boat away from that tourist town, to the more secluded area of Hat Yao. Hat Yao (meaning long beach) was really quite breathtaking, alomost as much as Pranang in Reiley. And it certainly was deserted, having only a few bungalow resorts to choose from and no souvenir stands or travel agancies. With barely anyone else on the beach, it really felt like my own tropical island!
The cheapest, and most entertaining bungalow option was quite litterally a bamboo hut on the beach. It was cute and cozy and seemed to be right out of a tropical dream. Olle made quite an interesting companion for meal times and walks along the beach, as he seemed to make a habit out of analysing one's personality and telling you about yourself. This led to some heated debates and mental power struggles between us. All in good fun, I assure you. It just goes to show that there are some very interesting people you can meet out there in this world.
The one great thing worth mentioning that I accomplished while on Ko Phi Phi wold be my snorkelling adventure. Olle and I hired a longtail boar driver for the afternoon, to take us around Ko Phi Phi Ley, a small island just of Phi Phi. He took us to three spots in total where the coral reefs were abundant and the sights were amazing! This being my first ever experience with the underwater world, I was delighted and excited with all the things I saw. Tropical fish of every size, shape and colour, sea urchins and the best ever: sharks! Yup, that's right, I was swimming with sharks! Very thrilling indeed. Even thought maybe I wasn't supposed to, to dove down under the water, touched the coral and swam in and out of it with schools of crazy-cloured fish! I had a lot of fun!
I think that living in this type of tropical atmosphere is as surreal as it is timeless. Because before I could realize it, three days had passed without giving much thought to reconnecting to the outside world. I left Hat Yao yesterday morning, just as dark clouds were rolling in to give the region yet another downpour. (Luckily, it had been sunny and hot my whole time on the island.) A ferry boat ride brought me back to Krabi, where I am now waiting to see if I can meet up with Ryan. I am hoping this can be done quickly, as I would like to leave for Ko Phangan as soon as possible. Maybe tomorrow morning...
