We rise after a very sound sleep and feel a bit hungry. We traditionally start our first morning in Las Vegas with a copy of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and a hearty New York strip steak and eggs breakfast at the coffee shop in the basement of Binion's gambling hall and hotel. At home we are normally yogurt and fruit people so the steak and eggs is a decadent treat.
Today there is a line of people waiting to get into the grand old-style coffee shop so we decide to give the Fremont Buffet a try with the same result. I'd read on TripAdvisor web site in the Las Vegas forum that the Bay City Diner in the Golden Gate Casino received high marks for their food and service so we decide to give it a shot.
There is no line here and we receive a menu water and coffee at light-speed and browse the menu. Wifey and I ordered a standard American breakfast of eggs over easy, hash browns and I get the ham and she gets the sausage. The diner is renown for it's waffles and the plates coming out of the kitchen look delicious.
The hangovers begin to lift with the help of aspirin, caffeine and water and we dig into our food which is most satisfying. The conversation begins to flow and we remark on how lucky we are to be in our new favorite city and we still have more than a week of Las Vegas still ahead of us.
We finish-up, tip and pay up and cross the street to the Plaza with full stomachs and thoughts of a nap and a slow read of the newspaper.
One of the reason's we stay at the Plaza Hotel and Casino is because it has a small exercise room for guests and a nice roof-top swimming pool. I head downstairs and do a bit of weight and cardio training to keep the blood flowing and then grab a lounge by the pool and do some sunbathing. The cares of a working stiff are gone and the hangover is a distant memory. All for the price of a $40 a night room. Only in Vegas.
