ok, so we got a little bit burned yesterday... aymi managed an almost complete burn whereas i managed my shoulders, my back and......

.......

my bloomin bellybutton... bah!

so today we went for a day trip.

the plan was; get a bus to the place, then a boat through mangrove swamps looking out for monkeys and dolphins, then get to a place, trek a wee while to a secluded beach then swim for a bit... maybe with a snorkel...

the plan went thusly:  we got up, it was thundering... we got to the place, some other people turned up and 2 of them left cos they thought they were being conned into having to buy breakfast (easy thing to see happening as everyone wants a piece of you here but it did mention the included breakfast on the signs...) so the others couldn't go on their trip cos there weren't enough folks for it.  then 2 others joined us for our trip even though they were supposed to be going to the islands... they were a bit weird.

it rained

on the boat all wrapped up in our newly acquired raincoats we set off to see the monkeys and dolphins... they don't like the rain apparently, and what with it being rainy season and all... so we saw some egrets, storks, sea eagles and a cambodian kingfisher, which was nice.

then we trekked to the beach, deserted and nice... no snorkels though.  and had a swim for half an hour, then we went back, ate some barracuda and drank some coke, then got on the boat and came back with the scariest taxi driver yet, slowing down to overtake trucks is a new way of thinking that isn't going to catch on i hope.

to make up for it we've just eaten a very nice meal, washed down with a nice chilled bottle of rose by the sea.  we went out to celebrate our 18 monthiversary last night, (even though we mistakenly celebrated it in japan a month early) and ate at the place that is recommended in the lonely planet for a 'splurge' the food was lovely but we were the only customers and therefore, this being cambodia we were outnumbered by the staff at least 6 to 1 and by cats about 2 to 1, we told our tuk tuk driver to pick us up at 9pm and by 7.45 we were already beginning to regret it... luckily he just stayed there so after another awkward moment of how to wake up a total stranger that's asleep in the back of his ride we were on our merry way back to our lovely bungalow on stilts to listen to the relaxing sounds of the wildlife, including a proper comedy frog that seems to live in our bathroom but we've not managed to see him yet.
