Breakfast at the Bayside was fantastic!

Yet another day of low clouds which really look beautiful hovering just above the water.  We're hoping to play nine holes of golf at a little course just about halfway between Digby and our next destination of Truro.

John forgot to fill the car at Digby so as soon as we saw a sign on the highway indicating gas at the next exit we pulled off.  Big mistake. Usually when a sign indicates food/lodging/gas coming up, you exit the highway and there it all is.  Not so here...we should have known better since we experienced this problem a few days ago...this was one for the record books though.  After exiting we followed the signs and followed the signs and followed the signs...no services in sight and by now too late to turn back...John was not a happy camper and I couldn't help laughing my head off Tulips & Thistle B&B-Truru, NS

.  By the time we stumbled upon a gas station we had driven nearly thirty miles off the main highway! Luckily for us there was a secondary road that we could hook into so as not to backtrack but boy oh boy this is something everyone should be very careful with in these parts.  If this had happened to someone who needed gas after dark or was close enough to empty to run out without being able to searchfor miles and miles that would be a disaster.

The gas situation solved we focused on looking for the golf course. Another wild goose chase. We had a three hour drive to Truro and left Digby at 9:30 AM...by the time we found the golf course (after stopping at two other courses and one visitor information center where we asked for directions) it was 1:30 and we had only traveled about 60 miles!

Lo and behold wouldn't you know...it started pouring rain.  We decided to hightail it out of there and continue on to Truro. This was a never-ending drive...we took a secondary road because it was quicker but the rain, road construction, a traffic accident and potholes took a toll on our progress.  We finally made it to tonight's lodging, Tulips & Thistle B&B got checked in and headed out again for dinner at Roadside Willies Smokehouse.  The meal was great but if you blink you'll miss this place which looks like a quonset hut T&T

Whew after today's escapades John said he was ready to go home!  This is a first but he's done all the driving (with the exception of me moving the car a few feet at one of the ferry docks) and we've now put over six thousand miles on the car since picking it up in Boston.

The town of Truro was first settled in 1761 by Presbyterians of predominantly Ulster Scottish origin who came from Ireland via New England. It is named after the city of Truro in Cornwall, England. Originally a small farming community, the construction of the Nova Scotia Railway between Halifax, and Pictou in 1858 caused the municipality to experience a fast rate of growth. It was officially incorporated in 1875.

Truro, was once known as the "Hub of Nova Scotia" as it is located at the junction between the Canadian National Railway, running between Halifax and Montreal, and the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway, running between Truro and Sydney.

Tulips & Thistle is a beautiful B&B on the outskirts of town in a quiet neighborhood set back from the road on approximately three acres of land which is as beautifully landscaped as a park. The innkeepers Ann and Larry are so nice you feel you've known them forever.

Well I know it's redundant but I'll say it anyway...It's been another long day and we're fried.  Gotta rest up for tomorrow which will take us out of Nova Scotia and back to the province we started this adventure in, New Brunswick.  Tomoprrow we're off to the Bay of Fundy, Hopewell Rocks area. I'm gonna pat myself on the back because I've finally caught up this blog tonight...better late than never, eh!
