We're off to Cape Spear this morning. The oldest surviving lighthouse in NL is located at the most easterly point of land in North America. It has been restored to its 1839 appearance and shows how a lightkeeper and his family might have lived in the mid-19th century.

The site is surrounded by spectacular scenery and wildlife such as whales, seabirds and icebergs in season. It's about a twenty minute drive from St. John's.  The weather is good today...bright and sunny but the Cape is windy with a capital W!

We headed out of town amidst much rain and wind for our destination of Grand Falls Windsor, NL which is approximately 442 KM/274 miles, a five hour drive halfway back across the island!

Our B&B tonight is the Carriage House Inn.  At the inn we met a traveler who happened to be a retired teacher from my hometown of Chicago, IL who told us this was her 18th trip to NL.

The mosquitoes and black flies are biting like crazy and it's still raining so we decided to grab a bite and call it a night.
