First of all, I’ll say this…we walked. A lot. Up lots of steps and hills. We got there in the morning. I think our flight landed at 11am, and we got the airtrain to terminal G where we got the BART. It cost $8.10 and took us to Montgomery st, which was just 2 blocks from Hotel Des Arts. We couldn’t check in until 15.00, but luckily they let us leave our bags. So off we went. I had a route planned and I was really hoping we wouldn’t be too tired to do everything. We had got up at 3am.

We made our way East, along Market St to the ferry building, and then followed the Embarcardo until we saw Coit Tower, and a sign for it. So we followed the sign. We went up our first lot of steps. There must have been 400 hundred of them or more….I was knackered when we got to the top. Luckily the tower was closed, so we didn’t have to walk up there. The view from the base was great. I could see the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Lombard Street, and of course lots of other stuff. So we made our way from there toward Fishermans Wharf. I am learning that places are very different in the Winter. I have always been in the Summer before….the buzz that I remember was not present this time. But it was still great. We went to Pier 39, looked in all the shops and then walked along the Wharf toward the GG Bridge. I wanted to go to Sausalito, and we needed to get the no. 10 bus from the GG toll plaza. So we walked for ages….it’s a LONG WAY. KT wanted to get a good picture before we got on the bus. We got lost and asked a security guy in the Presidio, who told us to keep going until we came to the Warming Hut Café, and then go up about 200 steps. I got a Hot Fudge Brownie sundae from the cafe (my 6th on this trip) and we walked up the steps. There was an amazing smell in the air….like the smell in the steam room at the gym. We got to the toll plaza and waited for the bus. Then we got on the bus for about half the price it should have been, because we were taking so long to put our money in that he just let us off.

The ride only took 15 minutes, but it was lovely. The view of the bridge from the other side is cool…and all the houses are so cute. It’s so hilly, and they all back onto the bay and have their own docks. Sausalito is cute too. It was dark when we got there, so we just walked around a little, and got the ferry back to San Fran at 18:10, to the ferry building. We went to bed early because we were so tired. Tomorrow we had more exploring to do.
