. We managed to get a return flight at 02.30pm so we didn't get to our accommodation in Christchurch until about 05.00pm. When we arrived unfortunately we had missed afternoon tea but they layed on a bottle of red wine and some Canopes instead (What a bummer!). The accommodation in Christchurch is beautiful a tradition old NZ house with fantastic furnishing and a first class restaurant.
We are off to the Southern Alps next to see the highest mountain in NZ Mount Cook (3764m)so John is very much looking forward to that. We have posted a couple of photos to keep you going until we get to the adventure playground of New Zealand Queenstown.
Bye Ava & John
Hi all, well we can now say that we've had our first mishap on our journey! We flew out of Auckland North Island New Zealand bound for Christchurch South Island New Zealand on Monday 1/05 at 09.00am(A supposed 1hr flight), we had a nice clear flight across the North Island with good views of Mount Taranaki volcano (Snow capped) and across the Abel Tasman peninsula and beaches of the South island. The cloud started to get a bit thicker but we could still see the snow capped mountains above broken clouds. We reached Christchurch and went out over the sea for a landing (It was still clear at this time) then when we were about 20ft above the runway we hit a wall of Fog! the pilot put the power back on and took off again for what we thought was a second attempt. Just then he came on the intercom and told us that he was returning to Auckland because the fog was too thick to land. So rewind the above in reverse and we landed back at Auckland in the brilliant sunshine for another tour of the Airport and baggage handling
