All packed up, we're ready to go
Well we are leaving home in about 90 minutes and, apart from packing up the computer and related technology (and grabbing a bite to eat), are ready to go. It does not seem real yet - it has been a while since we have traveled overseas - but it will be real enough shortly. We have an overnight flight to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific and then an onwards flight to Helsinki with FinnAir after four hours on the ground. We are tired enough that I hope we will get some sleep!
We are trialling new travel technology - at least as far as we are concerned. We are taking a notebook computer, and two PDAs, and using a few USB flash drives (a couple U3 type) as a secure backup and alternative in case of need. We have sought accommodation with wifi or other broadband internet access and intend to be in daily contact for work and social purposes. We have also procured a Global SIM from GO-SIM to use as an emergency contact route to us and as a reasonable form of phone communication for us as we travel. We have set up Kerry's email accounts on my laptop and tested it can receive mail - and then automatically put it in the right folder. Like most new trials of technology there are bound to be some hiccups but we have tried to think the issues through. We will let you know how we go - unless of course total technology disaster hits, in which case this may be the last you hear of the trip!
