From Prague it took 3 hours on the bus down to Cesky Krumlov. The timetable was bit confusing though, and we ended up waiting for several hours at a bus station on the other side of town for a bus that does¨§t run on Saturdays.
Cesky Krumlov is so picturesque. The river runs around it in a sort of backward loopy S shape, so the old town is almost completely encircled by water, and it is really peaceful. The castle dominates the town, and I spent a couple of hours wandering round, up the tower and through the lovely palace gardens. It also has 3 poor brown bears in a small enclosure at the entrance. A popular activity is to float down the river on rubber rings or inflatable rafts which would have been relaxing, but it rained the whole time so I didn§t get a chance. Quite a few people did though, usually after drinking cheap Czech beer, and often managed to overturn their rafts on completely flat water.
Seeing as it was wet I visited the gallery which had an exhibition of works by Egon Shiele and some local Czech artists. The hostel was really relaxed, and a nice place to hang out and meet other people so we whiled away some time playing cards and board games. I was supposed to be heading on to Amsterdam for a few days before making my way to London to meet Nick on the 11th, but have decided to stay put in the Czech republic instead and spend more time in Cesky Krumlov, and then head to Olomouc in the east of Czech More thumbnails ...
