Tromso

Tromso is often referred to as the Paris of the North, but I can't say I really saw the similarily. To me it had more of a Baltic feel. It was nice, though. The weather was fine, and the temperature was about 15 degrees, despite its latitude of 69 degrees north, and was surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
It claimed to have the 'northern most' of a lot of things, including the northern most university in the world, the northern most brewery in the world, and the northern most botanical gardens in the world. I visited the 'Arctic cathedral', a white pyramid shaped building with a vague resemblance to the Sydney opera house. Apparently the stained glass window is illuminated by the midnight sun, which would be quite a sight. I also enjoyed the botanical gardens, which had an interesting collection of cold-climate plants from around the world, and was suprisingly colourful.
