This is not a very exciting blog, but we felt we had to give a plug for the amazing Singapore airport. It has won the award for best airport in the world many years in a row, and with good reason. Last time we were in Singapore we were only in the airport for a short time waiting for our flight. This time we got to wait in the transit section of the airport for about 7 hours while we waited for our flight to Athens.
They really know how to accommodate travelers here. There is everything you could possibly need while waiting for your flight, whether it is for a few hours or most of the day. They have an airport hotel with various options available. You can pay a small fee for a shower, or a nap, or both. There is also several places to get a back or foot massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, etc. There are two beauty salons for haircuts as well. Enough shopping to keep you busy for at least a few hours. Many restaurants with all kinds of food selections, Indian, Italian or whatever type of food you like.
They do have a Starbucks, but to our surprise it was not in this part of the airport. It was in another terminal. We were not allowed to leave to go to it because we were in a secured part of the airport, but that didn't stop us. Jack now has an extra exit and entry stamp in his passport because he went to it. He had to go through immigration with the tea on his way back! There is the most beautiful orchid garden in the airport, it has a pond with huge Koi fish in it too. There is a fern type garden and a sunflower garden as well. There are some lounge areas to relax in and some bars if you fancy a drink. There is a movie theater showing a few of the recent releases.
It was nice to have all these things to keep us occupied and comfortable. We were not looking forward to the flight ahead of us. It would be our longest yet. Over 11 hours from Singapore to Athens. The flight was not so bad, we both managed to get a fair amount of sleep. It left Singapore at 1am. They started to serve us a full meal at about 2am, which we thought was quite strange. We woke up to see the sun was about to come up on the horizon. It was an amazing site, very surreal looking. We flew over the northern part of Africa on the way and got to look down at the Nile river and some vast areas of desert.
See you in Athens More thumbnails ...
