Hello Everyone,

We left the battlefield area and headed into the Drakensberg mountains. We had been told about them a number of times as being one of the highlights of South Africa.

We went to a backpackers in a very rural area outside of the town of Bergville. It turned out to be not as nice as the travel guides had said, but we stayed two nights anyways. We wanted to take in what the northern Drakensberg area had to offer. We did have a delicious meal of veggie mousakka here, but ended up living on pepto bismal for a few days, so not so nice.

The view of what is called the Amphitheatre was impressive. It is a set of mountains that do just that, create an amphitheatre. We got nice views of them from our room as well as everywhere on the backpacker property.

At the backpackers we sat one evening in the bar for a drink. We had heard of a small local brewery in the area that was quite popular. They happened to serve the beer at the backpackers. The four beers they make have great names.

Pickled Pig Porter
Whistling Weasle Pale Ale
Tiddly Toad Light Lager
Pye eyed Possum Pilsner

Jack tried the Pig Porter and said it was quite good. It is brewed with no chemicals, using spring water, and with traditional german brewing techniques, good for only 6 weeks after bottling.

We didn't stay long at this backpackers. There wasn't much to do at the backpackers itself or the area around it. Everything of interest had to be done as a day trip.
