On boxing day we went to the famed Kruegar Park. It is South Africa's largest wildlife park, covering the size of Great Britian. We drove around it for about half a day. It was so different from the safaris in Eastern Africa. We had to stop comparing it, or we wouldn't have gotten any enjoyment out of it. It was a little like entering what disneyland would set up for game viewing. The part we saw had mostly all paved roads, just a few dirt off roads. I believe most of the roads are paved throughout the whole park. It does make it easy to drive around in a regular car, but loses that authentic safari feel. Inside the gate we went in had huge tour buses parked, a bank, restaurant and soveneir shop. These are definatley not things you will find in the serengeti.
Everything aside we mangaged to enjoy ourselves. We spotted huge groups of baboons on a few different occasions. We sat next to them in the car only a few feet away and watched them for quite a while. We also saw vervet monkeys, hippos, a few giraffe, warthog, turtles, a huge black centipide, and more Impala, as well as Kudu, a type of large buck.
We were trying to exit the park and ended up stuck in line up of cars that streched for several hundred feet. It was backed up going in two directions because of a leopard spotted in a tree. The traffic was one thing we didn't like about the park.
