A temple visit to Kiyomizu temple

So, we set off an a trip from school to go tour Kyoto. It was just going to be a quick afternoon tour, which is what it was. After switching trains a few times, we finally arrive at Gojo station on the outskirts of Kyoto. From there it was a short walk along a souvenir crowded main street toward the smaller, pedestrian-only winding roads to the temple.
While we were mingling and trudging up the twenty degree concrete hill, lined with more tourist shops, we could make out a few temple buildings in the distance! We passed by some sweet shops and a couple of pricy restaurants. We also passed by the residence of a one Maiko-san, a prominent Kyoto geisha whose location at the time was unknown. It is rumored she wanders around near the temple, taking in the sights when it pleases her.
Finally, we arrived at the temple! I have plenty of photos of the front, inside and surrounding areas. The few places I don't have photos of were some of the best... there was a long, uneven stone staircase behind the shrine to Kannon (Buddhist god of compassion) that went down to where you wash your mouth with crystal clear spring waters. You took a UV-sterilized ladle, dipped it into the water, and drank. Then you walked back up the 100 or so uneven stairs! We didn't get to see the entire complex, but I definitely want to go back on a warm spring day (it was freezing!), although I was glad for the opportunity to see it less crowded! More thumbnails ...
