Starting where Evan left off...we we´re woken up that morning to the sound of the hostel "enforcer" knocking on the door b/c we slept in past check out. After some searching on the Internet we rented a room across the street with a balcony. After getting situated in the room we went out, had a few baguettes, and went to la Bocaria, a market down the street. Crowded place with fish, meat, and produce stands selling everything for cheap. Perfect. We bought some lunch for the day and once again trekked through the city. Our first stop was La Sagrada Familia, an unbelievable church that has been in construction for over 100 years. Gaudi, a Spanish architect, created the original plans for the cathedral, but when he died his plans were expanded upon to eventually create what is to be completed in 2026. The intricate work on the building is amazing and can only be appreciated up close (guess we´ll have to come back). After gazing at the building, and eating some gelatto, we took the long hike up to Park Guell which was also inspired by Gaudi, however created by his friend Guell. The view from the park was incredible as the park sits atop a hill overlooking the city. The unique mosaics and stone work, and interesting people (you don´t want to know about the man in the camo skirt) were worth the long journey to one of the highest points in the city. We took a bus back to the hostel, ate our lunches from the market, and relaxed in the room. This was interrupted by a two parades that went down our street as we watched from the balcony. Amazing city.
Today we plan on taking a guided tour of the Gothic sites in the city and we fly into Athens later tonight. Adios.
