A typical custom here in Latin America is to avoid the truth and embarrassment. They don´t want to disappoint you, by telling the truth. How, you ask ? Well, let me give you a typical example. I ordered a chicken sandwich at the beach the other day. Every twenty minutes, I asked about my sandwich. The second time I asked, ¨¨Is the chicken still walking down the road?¨¨ The fourth time I asked, ¨Is the chicken still swimming?¨¨. The waiter laughed every time. After an hour and a half of sitting and drinking at the patio bar, I motioned to the waiter. He came over and said they did not have anymore chicken! I just said what sounded like the letters ¨´K, I¨´ ( Que Hay?) = What is there? Hamburgers. I got my hamburger in 10 minutes. I have seen this so many times here and hear about it form others, and read about it in The Lonely Planet travel books, you would think I would catch on faster.
