So here I am, back in Araruama with my Aunt and 4 (5 with the one that came home for the weekend from University) cousins.
I came here to have an exorcism of sorts. I came to this fine city to have the demons of my hair cast out! Confused? Allow me to explain...
Thos who know me, know that I have incurably insane curly hair. Not the nice curly hair you see on Debra Messing...no no...the evil insane 'has a mind of its own' kinda curly hair. The kind that shrinks and expands and cannot even come in contact with a single drop of water and/or humidity. Yes folks...the potential for my hair to look like 'poodle with a bad perm' is quite high.
So, after seeing my Aunt and being totally baffled by her seemingly amazingly straight locks...she let me in on her secret. She had an exorcism too. Her results were so amazing...and other female members of my family here started coming forth with the stories of amazing transformations! I was in awe. All my life I had dreamed of flat-ass straight hair. You know...the kind of hair asian people have...that is SO frikkin flat you can't do ANYTHING with? Ya, that's what I'm talking about. People with straight hair who would kill for curls don't know what they're wishing upon themselves. Ask a curly-haired person before you decide to get a perm...you'll get the REAL story!
Anyway, I spent about 4 hours in a salon here in Araruama yesterday having my curly frizz demons cast from my hair. The resistance was strong...it's going to have to be a two part process. This first step was to relax my hair (the lady there said she had never seen such a tight and stubborn curl pattern). I'll be dropping by on Tuesday to have part 2 done...some more straightening. AND, the best part...I paid 1/2 of what I would've paid fo it in Canada! I had always wanted to do this but could never afford the $100+ price tag. They even served me coffee and snacks! Talk about service. Oh, I've adapted to having my lil' demi-tasse of pure brazilian coffee...black...with sweetener. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to Tim Horton's now...with their coffee-flavored brown water. Bleh!
Anyway, left the salon yesterday looking like a new person. My own cousins had a hard time recognizing me! I loved it! You could finally see the lovely golden brown color I had dyed my hair before going on vacation as well as the caramel-blonde highlights I had put in. People...my hair grew by like 6 inches when it was straigtened. I was like...OMG...I have HAIR! I can run my fingers through it without them getting tangled, I can shake my head and it moves with me...I can toss it over my shoulder...all these things I could never do before! I feel like I've won an Oscar.
And the best part of it all is that the people here are so used to doing it and know curly hair in and out. I felt completely safe with their competence. Even though it was a relatively small salon...kinda 'hole in the wall-ish'. LOL. But I hugged and kissed those two wonderful ladies who slaved away on me for 4+ hours.
Once I have some pictures of my new do...I shall post a before and after photo. Then you can leave a message on my guestbook letting me know which 'me' you like better. Curly Sue or Donatella Versace. LOL.
4 sad more days til I head back home. *SIGH*. One month sure went by lightning fast. :(
