I had booked a 3 island snorkeling trip for that day and just waited around till the tour van showed up to pick me up (around 1 PM or so). Was sharing the couch with this one girl who was avidly planning her Phuket sightseeing. Struck up a conversation with her and found out she was a half Mexican, half Korean (interesting combination) who was teaching English in Korea. We made plans to meet up later and do dinner once I got back from my tour. Her name was Patricia.
The tour van came and we made a few stops before arriving at the point of departure. We had a bit of bumpy boat ride to the first island (sorry, I can't remember any of their names now) but made it here with no problems. I had my mask and fins ready and spent a good 40 minutes snorkeling around. The sea urchins I saw were simply gigantic! I had never seen them that big before. I made sure to avoid them. I had brought a banana to lure the fish in with...so I got to see plenty of colorful ones. The most common ones were the 'Sergeant Major'. They are white/yellow with black stripes. We went to the second island and did some more snorkeling. Finally pulled into the third island...where I just lay on the beach and tanned. I was all snorkeled out. There were a few shops so I bought these two nice necklaces.
Back at the hostel I waited around for about an hour for Patricia to get back in. We then headed out to the 'Natural Restaurant', which is the place the hostel receptionist had told me about. It was only a 10 minute walk from the hostel and was a nicely decorated place with many aquariums. We had pork kebabs in Thai peanut sauce (they were amazing) and I had 'Chicken with Muslim herbs'. Back at the hostel I booked myself another tour for the following day. It was a half-day A.T.V/Elephant trekking/snake show combo. I was very limited to which tours I could do...as I had a ferry ticket to Phi Phi island booked for 2:30 PM. I could have done without the snake show...but it was part of the package. :p
