Chengdu was pretty nice. We were only here for about a day and 1/2, so we didn't exxxperience much, but not bad at all. The place is famous for a couple things:
Food. Sichuanese food is popular all over China & the world. We didn't actually have any proper Sichuan food whilst in Sichuan, but it matters not---I've had it plenty of times.
Pandas. The only pandas left in the wild are in the Chengdu area (relatively speaking) so we went to see them. We weren't really too exxxcited about the one in a million chance of seeing one in the wild, so we saw them at their breeding & research base one morning. The animals were what you'd exxxpect, but the museum there was most interesting. First of all, the lights weren't on in the museum (not exxxactly high tourist season), so I had to use my pocket LED to guide us around. The lady at the gift shop at the entrance/exit paid us no mind. More interesting, though, were the panda sexual organs in formaldehyde and the pictures of their artificial insemination attempts. If the lights had been on, there'd be photos.
