Another convoy... But for me it is worth it, because I want to see the Red Sea, and when you are this close, how can you not? I can't, however, imagine being based in Hurghada and make day tips to Cairo or Luxor-kill me now.
I lost track of how long the drive was, maybe six hours? It was another convoy, so that always limits you. There was one stop, where everyone gets out and runs to the washroom at the same time. There were a few shops that are clearly only open for the 45mins the convoy stops by, and many locals toting around camels for pictures and tips.
This area, much like the Mediterranean coast between Alexandria and Mersa Matrouh, is under massive construction. There are giant resorts being built on every inch of the land, water access or not. I felt like we were arriving just before a population explosion, at least in terms of tourists.
Our arrival at our hotel wasn't a great start. I would have understood if they had told us that we were too early, and that we ought to find other entertainment until the room was ready. Instead they kept saying, it is not ready yet, not ready yet. We watched as other people who just arrived got taken to their room, and we waiting close to 2 hours. It would have been longer if we hadn't walked into town for a little tour right when we arrived.
Because we weren't checked in, we missed lunch, and had to wait a long time for dinner hour. Because they kept telling us it wouldn't be long, we didn't change, or go swimming. Because we waited and waited, it was dark before we were settled in our room.
Another snag. The food is not good, it is not bad, but we got five star food on the cruise, and were kind of expecting a lot of the same. Luckily we had some left over cakes from Gill and John-and those made up for it.
There was no entertainment planned for the evening, other than a "club" that played a lot of Bryan Adams and Celine Dion, we decided to forgo it to sleep. No clue where the infamous nightlife is, maybe we will find it tomorrow.
