Plan: Christian cemetery in Bagawat-- 263 mud brick mausoleums-- 26th Dynasty Hibis Temple & Ptolemaic Temple of Nadura.

Once we got there, it was clear why Wael suggested we could trim down our time in Kharga... We saw all the sites, eventhough we are feeling a little "sited" out, in a day and had time to kill. I can't imagine having drawn it out longer.

To me, the most interesting ones was the Christian cemetery in Bagawat. Two specifically have very intresting paintings on their roofs, the Temple of Exodus, showing Moses leading the Jews while being chased by Romans, and the Temple of Peace, showing Jesus and other main Bible characters like Noah, Adam, Eve, Abraham ect. You could even decipher some of the Greek for its similarity to the English. The skill of the paintings themselves seemed almost juvenile, cartoony , and very basic, especially after the detail in some Egyptian carvings.

The hotel was nice, but spoke to the different level of tourism in the area. Once settled in our room, I took advantage of the time to do some quick lanudry... Well, it wasn't that quick socks, underware and tanks in a very small sink. After a nap, we headed down for the most traditional meal we have had so far, a stew that was not unlike something Mom use to make in the croq pot. It was very good. Feeling a little tired and unsettled, I bowed out for a power nap before rejoining Ben, Wael and Rado for what would be our last Milles Bornes game of the desert circut championship. We had played every night, a game or two, since we introduced them to it in Bahariya. They loved it, and it was the highlight of every evening. Tragically Wael and I fell to Ben and Rado after the later managed to triumphantly shout "Coup Ferrer" for the victory. It will go down in Egyptian history... or at least Rado's personal history. After the game, we gave him the cards-- the smile was bigger than the trophy.
