The whole group left for the chingway, in order to go to the Metro, which is essentially the Chinese Costco. Of course, food selection is different. Patricia (my roomie) and I wandered around for awhile trying to decide what we needed for our place. We found a really nice red mat, which was pretty cheap, and felt it might add a little homey-ness. Other than that, we got some staples- fruit, crackers and instant coffee. We wanted to grab some lunch, but there wasn't really anything available, so we headed home instead.
But our shopping day wasn't over; we headed back to the Trust-mart to see if we could find some fresh bread and stumbled across Bread Talk! It is a fantastic little bakery, more modern that Terra Cotta breads, but delicious all the same. We grabbed some cranberry bread fresh out of the oven that melted when we put it to our mouths!
We relaxed for a bit more of the afternoon, it felt like Totem (university residence) reading, napping, people wandering by to hang out. All in all, it was a peaceful afternoon.
And yet, the best still hadn't happened yet... and also involved food. My friend Brandon's fiancée Allison's friend Andrea lives here, and works at the same school as we have been posted at. She and her boyfriend Chris invited us for dinner!
We met at Starbucks, and they walked us over to their beautiful apartment. You come to really appreciate home environments when you have been away from your own for so long. We had homemade lasagne, and salad, and pineapple, and it was wonderful. We totally appreciated not having to order from a menu, and wonderful company to boot.
It capped a nice day, full of grocery shopping and good food.
